OctoPunk Desktop Privacy Policy

This policy covers the OctoPunk desktop app distributed through the Mac App Store.

Data on your Mac

OctoPunk stores connected GitHub account information, preferences, cached GitHub content, and optional repository clones on your Mac. Authentication tokens and configured AI provider keys are encrypted using macOS-backed secure storage. Local diagnostic logs may contain information about app activity. OctoPunk does not automatically send those logs, usage analytics, or repository contents to an OctoPunk-operated server.

GitHub

When you connect an account, the app communicates directly with GitHub to authenticate and perform the actions you request, such as reading repositories or posting a review. GitHub receives those requests and handles data under its Privacy Statement. OctoPunk only has the permissions granted to the connected account and its authorization token.

App Store purchases

Apple processes Pro subscription purchases and payments. The app reads verified subscription status through StoreKit to enable Pro features. OctoPunk does not receive your payment card details. Apple's processing is described in its Privacy Policy.

Optional AI and local developer tools

If you configure and use an AI provider, your prompts and the code or context included in the request are sent directly to that provider using your configured credentials. The selected provider's privacy and retention terms apply. You control whether to configure and use these features.

Optional code intelligence uses language servers you install on your Mac. Those tools run under their own settings and may have their own network or data-handling behavior.

Your controls

You can remove connected accounts and clear available caches in the app's settings. You can also revoke OctoPunk's GitHub authorization or tokens in GitHub settings. Removing local app data does not delete content you have posted to GitHub, data retained by a selected AI provider, or purchase records held by Apple. Manage or cancel subscriptions through your App Store account.

Support and changes

If you choose to send a support request, we receive the information you include. Do not include passwords, access tokens, or private repository content in public support posts. Contact us through the OctoPunk community repository.

We may update this policy as the desktop app changes. The date above identifies the current revision.
